On Sunday, March 22, our congregation will welcome Judge Stephen Trott, a senior inactive member of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, to speak during worship and after a coffee break, will continue with discussion and questions at 11 a.m. He will explore the deepening polarization in our nation and the challenges it poses to a healthy democracy.
Judge Trott has ruled on immigration cases, criminal cases and issues affecting the court system, where the pursuit of justice depends on trust, fairness, and a shared commitment to the common good. He will explain the balance on the courts, including the Supreme Court and how rulings are reached and enforced.
This event is part of our ongoing congregational work around activism, civic engagement, and constructive conversation. As people of faith, we are called not only to understand the world around us but also to participate in its healing. Judge Trott’s perspective will help us reflect on how we can show up with courage, compassion, and clarity in a time of heightened tension.
